Hy-SPIRE at ModVal Conference 2026

On March 10-11, 2026, the 22nd Symposium on Modeling and Validation of Electrochemical Energy Technologies (ModVal 2026) took place in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The event was hosted by the Group of Energy Materials of EPFL together with the group of Prof. Haussener.

During the event, the master’s student Mathieu Zysset presented his master’s thesis work related to HySPIRE on SOEC dynamic modeling, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Van Herle and Dante Fronterotta.

The poster title is “Dynamic Multiphysics Modeling of Solid Oxide Electrolyzers” and the main conclusions reported are the following:

  • Verified the dynamic modeling capability of a 3D multiphysics solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) repeating unit and
    qualitatively validated it against literature.
  • Conducted a thermal transient sensitivity study, identifying air flow rate as the dominant driver of SOEC thermal response.
  • Performed thermo-mechanical analyses on simplified and detailed geometries to track electrolyte stress evolution under a sharp current-density step and pinpoint peak-stress locations.
